HOTEL PROVERBS Taipei - Hotel Design

Hotel Design

  Whispers in the City

Created by internationally acclaimed designer Ray Chen, HOTEL PROVERBS Taipei pairs an enigmatic black mesh-steel façade with green-building concept,

weaving nature and modernity into a living urban scene.

Ceiling-to-floor windows invite in daylight and greenery, while semi-transparent silhouette lines let the building blend into the city yet keep a measured distance.
With the Chinese philosophy of “borrow the view when there is one; turn away when there isn’t,” the design reveals a quiet beauty—

serene amid the bustle, softly veiled and elusive—a tranquility crafted for the modern urban traveler.

1st Floor | A banquet of light and shadow

Step into the 3-story high lobby and dining hall, and it feels as if you’ve entered another century.
Lobby walls are clad with hand-embossed black iron plates sourced from centuries-old European castles, while inside L’IDIOT GRILL&PASTA eight Austrian crystal chandeliers interplay with mirrors, scattering a kaleidoscope of light. Underfoot, Italian antiqued patchwork tiles add texture, shaping an atmosphere where nostalgia and opulence coexist.
Like a work by Goya - luminous, transparent, and richly layered - the space becomes an artwork of sight and feeling.

2nd Floor | A Subtle and Elegant Multi-Functional Space

Three private rooms on the second floor can be combined as needed to host 8–32 guests. The setting centers on Restoration Hardware solid-wood tables and warm copper lighting, paired with Italian gold-velvet chairs for an ambience that’s composed yet inviting. With large windows drawing in natural light, walls and details finished with a soft sheen, gatherings and parties here are both tasteful and ritualized.

3rd Floor | A Nocturne of the City

Ascend to the third floor, where EAST END meets Taipei’s night through two ceiling-to-floor windows.

Inside, the copper lamps cast a vintage, amber glow, while the wine display wall shimmers with the patina of time.

The wall and lofty ceiling are clad in hand-embossed black iron plates from centuries-old European castles, and Italian geometric patchwork tiles underfoot echo the burnished copper flooring and the classic vibe of the Dutch Versmissen Furniture sofas.

In this refuge for urban souls, time slips gently by——

between light and shadow, and the aroma of fine spirits.

5th–11th Floors | Quietude Extended

The glow of red copper emblems the passage of time, and the color changing caused by oxidation represents the hotel’s subtle breath.

Along the guestroom corridors, Ray Chen deliberately lets the copper surfaces age naturally without masking or polishing them, so that the traces of everyday use become imprints of memory.

On each floor’s elevator lobby, an African gazelle stands in quiet watch, symbolizing a hotel style that is understated yet drawn to communal connection.

Time Written in Metal | Copper • Black Iron

The wardrobe and lightings, originally metal bookcases from Restoration Hardware, showcased the co-existence of ruggedness and elegance and added a cool, composed strength to the space.

Quiet Texture of Stone | Black Galaxy Granite • Marble • Italian “Landscape” Marble

The vanity is crafted from fine black galaxy granite with calm yet subtly luminous. Bathroom walls and floor feature premium Italian “landscape” marble with symmetrical veining and layered patterns, reminiscent of nature’s ink-wash paintings. In select rooms, marble shows different expressions with shifts of light and shadow, and turns every bath into a moment of contemplation.

Light, Shadow & Memory | Crystal Pendants • Unvarnished Traces

Low-hanging crystal lamps shimmer beside the bed, setting a hushed mood for reading. Materials are intentionally left unpainted and timeworn, so that every scuff and touch becomes a record of the traveler’s dialogue with the space.

Proverbs in Paintings | Hidden Messages

Each room features a specially crafted artwork inspired by the sequins on a matador’s costume in deconstructed, abstract lines. In certain rooms, an uplifting proverb lies hidden within the painting - revealed under evening light as a small secret message for the traveler.

Rooftop | A Laid-back Urban Oasis

Who would have thought an urban oasis can be hidden above the most busy street of the East District?
The rooftop reflecting pool feels like a secret garden, with blue sky and shifting light mirrored on the surface and wrapping greenery, that offers a brief escape from the bustle.
From here, the skyline of Xinyi District and Taipei 101 unfolds, giving travelers an exclusive serene view of Taipei.
